2008 Winter Atomiades

The Cadarache ski and snowboard club participates in two types of sport meetings: the Mélusine and Pégase cups nationally and the Winter Atomiades at the European level.
The Winter Atomiades are friendly competitions between downhill and cross country skiers of various European research centres members of the ASCERI. They are organised every three years alternately by the various centres. They include various alpine (giant and parallel slaloms) and cross country (alternative, skating, biathlon) ski races.
The Melusine (for men) and Pegase (for women) cups are friendly competitions between downhill skiers of the various CEA centres. They are organised every year except in the Atomiade years alternately by the various centres.
2025 Winter Atomiades
The 14th Winter Atomiades were held from 15 to 22 March 2025 in Reit-im-Winkl, on the border between Germany and Austria, like in 2008. This was the first edition since 2017, following the cancellation of the Atomiades scheduled for March 2020. The event brought together 125 participants from 15 European research organisations. 11 members of the ASCEA Cadarache ski and snowboard section took part, as did the President of ASCEA Cadarache.
The Cadarache team finished first of the competition and won 11 individual medals in 4 races. This is ASCEA Cadarache's best ever result at the Winter Atomiades, after being on the podium in 2005, 2011, 2014 and 2017.
The week had got off to a bad start, however, with the cross-country skiing events cancelled at the last minute due to a lack of snow at the cross-country skiing stadium (which had hosted the Biathlon World Championships in January), very thick fog at the alpine skiing resort, a collision between 2 team members resulting in a serious injury, and the fall of a competitor in the 1st race.
Circumstances were then reversed, with 2 men in the top 5 of the ski giant slalom, a 2nd place in the snowboard race and 2 women in the top 3 of the ‘combined’ slalom. This density of good results enabled the Cadarache team to overtake the Saclay and ILL teams in the team ranking based solely on alpine skiing results. The sun also came out, allowing the team to take advantage of the recent snowfall at the Steinplatte-Waidring and Sankt Johan in Tirol resorts . Finally, the week was characterised by a very friendly atmosphere both on and off the slopes.
2025 Melusine-Pegase cup
The Melusine-Pegase competition will not take place in 2024 because no available resort could be found.
2020 Winter Atomiades
The 2020 edition was planned from March 21 to 28 in Avoriaz (Haute Savoie). It was cancelled due to the Covid-19 crisis.
2019 Melusine-Pegase cup
The 2019 edition of the Melusine cup was organized by ASCEA-IRSN Fontenay-aux-Roses in Flaine (Savoie) on January 26 and 27, 2019. In good weather conditions, 100 skiers from six CEA centres, including 10 young people with intellectual disabilities, competed in a giant slalom. .
The Cadarache team consisted of 17 participants. Cadarache finally consolidated its 2nd place in the Pegase Cup, acquired in 2018, and placed its two men's teams 4th and 5th for the Mélusine Cup. In individual, the team returns with seven medals and takes up the veteran men podium :
- Marjorie Bertolus, first lady, first senior lady and 10th overall li>
- Bernadette PELUSO: second veteran lady,
- Pascal FEJOZ: third senior man and 5th overall,
- Alain BARANIAK: first veteran man,
- Gérard PELLOUX: second veteran man,
- Stéphane CHARBAUT: third veteran man.
2018 Melusine-Pegase cup
The 2018 edition of the Mélusine-Pégase cup was organised in Pralognan-la-Vanoise on January 27 and 28 by the ski club of the ASCEA-ST Grenoble.
In the beautiful Vanoise, the 16 members of the Cadarache team got excellent results, even if we missed the 2 team cups, very narrowly for ladies. The woman team finished second behind the young Grenoble team by less than a second. Men ranked third behind Saclay and the CESTA and pushed Grenoble out of the podium. The team also brings back 6 individual medals:
- Marjorie Bertolus, First lady and first senior
- Valérie Lamaison, third lady senior
- Bernadette Peluso, second lady veteran
- Alain Baraniak, first veteran man
- Christian Dominjon, third veteran man
2017 Winter Atomiades
The 2017 edition took place from March 11 to 18 at l'Alpe d'Huez (Isère). It was organised by the Laue-Langevin Institut (ILL) and brought together 205 participants from 14 research centres from 7 countries (Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium and France) participated in this competition. A 13 member team represented Cadarache sport association.
The week was characterised by the impeccable organization of the races, very sunny and warm days, the beautiful scenery of the Oisans mountains, a very friendly atmosphere, and fructuous exchanges between the various institutes.
The Cadarache team finished third (as in 2005, 2011 and 2014) in the team evaluation behind the Laue-Langevin Institute (Grenoble, France) et the European Synchrotron Research Facility (also Grenoble, France) CERN (Geneva, Switzerland). This excellent result rewards the good performances in alpine ski and the very honourable results in cross country skiing, which were obtained thanks to our two specialists who motivated the whole team in participating in most cross country events. The team also won the third place in the medal ranking with a record high number of individual medals for 13 team members: 12 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze medals.
2016 Melusine-Pegase cup
The 2016 Melusine cup took place in La Plagne (Savoie) on January 30 and 31. It was organized by the Marcoule ski club. 14 club members represented Cadarache.
Women shone by winning the Pégase cup back and 3 individual medals: Marjorie Bertolus, 2nd lady and 1st senior lady, Valérie Lamaison, third senior lady. Things were a bit more complicated for the male team. A fall made them miss the podium in a keenly contested competition for the Melusine Cup. They won 2 individual medals: Alain Baraniak, 1st veteran, Léo Déchelette 2nd junior competitor.
2015 Melusine-Pegase cup
The 2015 Melusine cup took place in Morzine (Haute-Savoie) on January 24 and 25. It was organized by the Saclay ski club. The Cadarache team was composed of 18 members.
Despite an extraordinary first run, the Cadarache male team finished 3rd of a closely fought competition for the Melusine Cup behind Grenoble and Saclay. The members of the team also won 4 individual medals: 2nd man and 1st senior man: Pascal Féjoz, 1st and 2nd veteran men: Alain Baraniak and Christian Duc.
2014 Winter Atomiades
The 2014 edition was organised by AIT Seibersdorf in Flachau (Austria) from March 8 to 15. 290 participants from 18 research centres from 7 countries (Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium and France) participated in this competition. A 17 member team represented Cadarache sport association.
The week was characterised by a very friendly atmosphere, high level races, sunny days, mild temperatures, magnificent sceneries and lively parties.
The Cadarache team finished third (as in 2005 and 2011) behind the Laue-Langevin Institute (Grenoble, France) et the CERN (Geneva, Switzerland), and in front of the ESRF (Grenoble, France) and AIT Seibersdorf (Austria). This excellent result rewards the very good performances in alpine ski and the honourable results in cross country skiing, which were obtained thanks to our two specialists who motivated the whole team in participating in most cross country events. The members of the team also won a large number of individual medals: 12 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze medals.
2013 Melusine-Pegase cup
The 2013 Melusine-Pegase cup was organised by the CESTA ski club in Saint-Lary-Soulan (Pyrenees) on February 2 and 3. About 100 people from 6 CEA and AREVA centres participated. For the first time in the cup history, however, the ski race could not take place because of too much snow! We enjoyed two (and for some of us three) excellent days of powder snow.
2012 Melusine-Pegase cup
The 2012 Melusine-Pegase cup was organised by the Cadarache ski club in Puy-Saint-Vincent on January 28 and 29. 85 skiers from 7 CEA and AREVA centres (Cadarache, CESTA, Fontenay-aux-Roses, Grenoble, La Hague, Marcoule, Saclay) participated in this week-end.
Cadarache finished second in the team competitions for men and women alike and won many individual medals.
2011 Winter Atomiades
The 2011 winter Atomiades were organized by ESRF at La Clusaz (Savoie) from January 22 to 29. 15 research centres from 6 countries (Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, The Netherlands and France) participated in this competition. A 20 member team represented Cadarache sport association.
Despite a relative lack of snow and the intense cold all alpine and cross country races were beautiful, thanks to the good organization and the warm atmosphere among the racers and supporters. Exchanges between the participants of the various teams, on the slopes and during meals, were numerous and give to these competitions the conviviality which make one want to come back. The Cadarache team finished third with a large number of medals. These good results have lead the Cadarache team to sing the anthem written for the occasion (see below).
Song of the Cadarache team
(On the tune of "l’eau vive" by Guy Béart)
Cada, Cada, Cadarache
On s’arrache, on se lâche
Cada, Cada, Cadarache
On se fâche, on vous lâche
Glissez, glissez, tentez de nous rattraper
Glissez, glissez, jamais vous n’y parviendrez

The women were particularly outstanding, winning the Pegase Cup for the best women's team, despite the withdrawal of one of the competitors following an accident (fortunately not too serious) on the morning of the race. In the Melusine Cup, the men's team came second behind Grenoble and ahead of Marcoule. The team also won a number of individual medals, including the fastest time for both men and women.Individual medals

2008 Winter Atomiades
The 10th Winter Atomiades took place from 1 to 8 March in Reit im Winkl, on the border between Germany and Austria. It was organised by the Forschungszentrum in Karlsruhe (Germany) and brought together 220 participants from 14 research centres in 6 European countries, including 10 racers from the Cadarache ski section.
The week of festivities was marked by the high level of the competitions, the friendly atmosphere, the fruitful exchanges between the different centres and different countries, as well as the magnificent scenery of the Kitzbühel region, fresh snow and sunshine.
Cadarache's ski section came fifth (out of fourteen) in the team competition, which included downhill and cross-country skiing, behind the European Synchrotron Research Facility (Grenoble), CERN (Geneva), Institut Laue-Langevin (Grenoble) and the Austrian research centre. This good result crowns the team's very good performances in alpine skiing and their efforts in cross-country skiing, which the vast majority of the team only do once every three years at the Atomiades to take part in the team rankings. The individual results were also impressive, with 4 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.
